and Robot: Mere Machine To Transcendent Mind (New

old-fashioned wetware (ie you and I) will shortly be
supplanted by hardware and software.
That vision is shared by Raymond Kurzweil,
famous for work on speech recognition & synthesis, in
his tracts The Age of Spiritual Machines: When
Computers Exceed Human Intelligence (London, Phoenix
99) and The Age of Intelligent Machines (Cambridge,
MIT Press 90).
