the briefings
The twenty-two Guides on this site
offer an introduction to issues such as online privacy, electronic
commerce, security and intellectual property. We have supplemented them
with individual Briefings.
The briefings provide assessments or
background information about particular issues and developments, for
example schemes for the global identification of online text and
music.
The briefings also provide profiles of
specific companies, technologies and individuals. For example, there are
briefings on thirty-three major media groups, highlighting their
strategic direction, pointing to writing about them and scoping their
activity in Australia and overseas.
The following sets of briefings are
currently available. More information will be online shortly as
reconstruction of this site continues.
If you are having difficulty
identifying the page you need, use the search facility - it covers all
parts of the site - or contact us.
The Media
briefings provide detailed profiles of major media groups in Australia and overseas
We have begun to build a set of biographies (including publication
lists) of people who've influenced thinking about the internet and the
information economy
The Privacy
briefing supplements the Privacy guide, detailing the Commonwealth and state/territory data protection
regimes
We're often asked for pointers to the
evolution of the web and as a result have produced two briefings.
There's a detailed background briefing on the computing industry,
concentrating on major companies but including material about Babbage
and other pioneers. And there's a separate briefing on global networks
and the history of the web.
