This page is under construction and will be available
in November 2002, highlighting studies about the 'wired
classroom'. Australian states/territories and overseas
governments have boasted about their success in taking
schools onto the net but a close examination of figures
suggests that
- connectivity
in many schools, particularly in much of the US, has
not escaped outside the library or the administrator's
office - many classrooms remain to be wired
- there
is uncertainty about day to day use of the net where
there is a connection to the classroom (eg there's only
a single 'wired' machine, which is often not online)
- there
is greater disagreement about the scope for developing
net-based curricula and - more effectively - leveraging
online resources to complement rather than replace traditional
teaching methods.
