| about this site using the site | what's new | the elephant |
This section provides information about the Caslon Analytics site: how it's developing, how it can be used.
Why? The answer's simple. To help you find the information that you're looking for - faster, more easily - and to do so as the site expands, both in content and in the numbers of visitors. Your feedback has told us that our site's very useful. You've also flagged that some material was hard to find, and sometimes pages took a long time to load. Those are common problems. Several other websites are doing the same thing. Like us, they've opted for simplicity. The changes introduced with this new look are a first step towards tackling those problems. Technically the design is simpler. It uses smaller, fewer and lighter graphics to help the pages load faster. We want to make sure that information is available as conveniently as possible, whether you have a high-speed connection and the latest machine or something more modest. Unfortunately, different browsers and different machines display information differently. And the 'pipe' bringing the information to your screen varies from location to location. That's why we decided not to use frames and Shockwave. They're clever - and they work for particular markets - but they are not practical for our content and many of our users. We hope that the design is clearer. All the main navigation links now appear in the banners at the top and bottom of the page. Because we're adding new resources to hep our clients - and others interested in the online world - we've added a site map, a 'gateway' that points to our growing number of guides, and a 'what's new' page highlighting recent changes. In coming months we will include a search facility. In the meantime, if you can't find what you're looking for just send us an email or give us a call. On occasion some pages may be temporarily unavailable.
We welcome feedback about the site's structure and content. Your comments will be important for its further development. Of course, given our commitment to privacy, we'll respect the confidentiality of any comments. All feedback will be kept confidential unless you give us your permission to share it with others. We'll only use it to improve the site and our services.
Our logo is drawn from an early woodcut of an elephant - quite famous in his day - named Suleyman. His adventures are described in his biography.
Throughout this site we refer to the web and the internet because - like the telephone, radio and television - they're now 'givens' in advanced economies. They are no longer entities that are restricted to aficionados or free from economic/social norms and legal frameworks. Purists and grammarians may disagree; our interest is in helping our clients optimise use of the technology.
