Bruce Arnold is a 'new media' and regulatory expert with experience in the Australian public and private sectors.

Bruce was the internet technology and policy specialist on the Intellectual Property Task Force established by the Commonwealth Department of Communications, Information Technology & the Arts (the federal government's 'content & carriage' department).

He provided the secretariat for the national New Technologies Working Party, a Commonwealth and State/Territory government body exploring the internet's impact on the cultural sector and the information economy. That work included landmark fora on indigenous intellectual property, statutory deposit, interoperability standards, rights management and digitisation. It also included development of the Digital Environment multimedia resource.

Prior to service with the NTWP he was Deputy Chief Executive of the Australia Foundation for Culture & the Humanities and held corporate planning, database development and marketing positions within the Commonwealth public service.


Bruce was a representative in Australian and international discussions about copyright, e-commerce regulation, freedom of information, content regulation and metadata. He has served as an expert witness in corporate litigation. He is the author of the forthcoming Mediascapes: Old Media in the Digital Environment and is currently working on a comparative study of national information policy.

He is a member of several industry working groups and task forces, such as the Internet Industry Association (IIA) digital divides task force, Digital Music task force and ISOC-AU working group on wireless broadband technologies.

Since establishing Caslon Analytics he has worked with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) Australia, the Commonwealth Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Momentous Corporation of Canada and a range of Australian businesses engaged in e-publishing and electronic commerce.
